Yavuz Ekinci was born in 1979 in the village of Yediboluk in Batman. A graduate of the Dicle University Faculty of Education, Ekinci is currently a teacher in Batman as well as a graduate student in Turkish Language and Literature at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University.
Ekinci has received multiple prestigious awards for his short stories, including the 2005 Haldun Taner Award and the 2007 Yunus Nadi Award, both for short story collection of the year. One of the most acclaimed and prolific young writers of literature in Turkey, his work has been translated into English, German, and Kurdish, while an early draft of the novel Cennetin Kayıp Toprakları (The Lost Lands of Paradise) was adapted to the screen and released under the title Rêç/İz/The Trace (Kurdish/Turkish/English titles, respectively). Ekinci is currently working on his third novel.
