Yasmeen Hameed has over thirty years of experience in the fields of education, literature, and art. She was the founder-director of the Gurmani Centre for South Asian Languages and Literature at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). She has authored five books of poetry in Urdu, and her book Pakistani Urdu Verse was published by Oxford University Press in 2010.
She has also edited and translated several anthologies of Urdu poetry. Her work has appeared in translation in Granta, 112 Pakistan, the Atlanta Review, and Dalkey Archive’s anthology Modern Poetry of Pakistan. She received the Fatima Jinnah Medal for Literature from the Government of Punjab in 2006 and the Tamgha-e Imtiaz Award for Literature from the Government of Pakistan in 2008.
