Ralph Angel was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1951. He received a Masters of Fine Arts degree at the University of California, Irvine, and has lived in and around Los Angeles ever since. He has traveled extensively in Europe, North Africa, and Central and South America. Read More He is the author of the poetry books Twice Removed, which was nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Award and was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award; Neither World, which received the 1995 James Laughlin Award of the Academy of American Poets; and Anxious Latitudes. His poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The Antioch Review, The American Poetry Review, and many other magazines, and have been collected in numerous anthologies, including The Best American Poetry, New American Poets of the 90s, and Forgotten Language: Contemporary Poets and Nature. His honors include a Pushcart Prize, a gift from the Elgin Cox Trust, the Willis Barnstone Poetry Translation Prize for his translation of García Lorca's Poem of a Deep Song, and the Bess Hokin Award of the Modern Poetry Association.
