Patricia de Souza (Ayacucho, 1964) is a Peruvian writer and translator.. She holds a doctorate in French and Comparative Literature from the Sorbonne.
From her debut novel Cuando llegue la noche (When Night Arrives, 1994) through her later works Vergüenza (Shame), El último cuerpo de Úrsula (Ursula's Last Body), and Electra en la ciudad (Electra in the City), De Souza began exploring the themes that would continue to mark her work: violence, alienation, memory, and solitude. A finalist for the Herralde and recipient of many fellowships, she is the author of nine novels, as well as the essay Eva no tiene paraíso about gender in a patriarchal langage and colionalism. Her work has been translated into German, French, and English. She has translated the work of Flora Tristan, Michel Leiris, and Jean Echenoz from the French and contributes to Spain's El país and Lima's La república, among other media.
