Born in 1947, Naira Gelashvili is a Georgian writer, philologist, and civil activist. She began her career as a translator of German philosophy and poetry before publishing her first works in Georgian magazines in the 1980s. Although her nonconformist prose drew unwelcome attention from the Soviet authorities, Gelashvili continued writing. Read More  Naira Gelashvili’s publications include novels, stories, essays, poetry and children’s prose, as well as children’s songs and musical tales, and she has won several literary awards, including the 2013 and 2010 SABA Awards for best novel and the 2008 Ilia Chavchavadze Prize for Artistic Work. She heads the cultural-educational NGO Caucasian House Centre for Cultural Relations, which she founded in 1994, and which plays a significant role in the peaceful cooperation between different cultures and religions among the people of the Caucasus. Gelashvili’s work has been translated into German and other languages.
