Miraji (1912–49) was born in Gujranwala, then part of British India and now part of Pakistan. His given name was Muhammad Sanaullah Dar, but he wrote as Miraji. Along with N. M. Rashed, he was a pioneer of free verse in Urdu poetry. He was also a prolific critic and translator who worked for several literary magazines in Lahore, Delhi, and Bombay. He also worked for All-India Radio.
