Jerzy Lutowski was born in 1923 in Lviv in what is now Ukraine. In the years of Nazi occupation, he served in the underground Home Army (Armia Krajowa) and took part in the Warsaw Rising in the summer of 1944. He later trained as a doctor, but made a career in journalism, film, and literature. The play Szkoła dobroczyńców, here translated with the title ‘Love Thy Saviour’, was published in 1980. He died in 1985.
