Jana Egle was born in 1963 in a small village in the border area of Latvia, at that time occupied by the Soviet Union. Her poetry and short stories have appeared in several literary magazines and anthologies. Her debut short-story collection, Into the Light, came out in 2016 and received the 2016 Latvian Literature Award for the best work of prose. She is a member of the Writers Union of Latvia and lives in the windy town of Liepaja near the Baltic Sea.
