Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Éric Fontaine lives and works in Montreal.
His translations from English to French include Doug Harris’ You Comma Idiot (T’es con point), Emily Schultz’s The Blondes (Les Blondes), Craig Davidson’s Sarah Court (Les bonnes âmes de Sarah Court), Nick Cutter’s The Troupe (Troupe 52), and Michael Crummey’s Sweetland. His translations of Tom Gauld’s Baking With Kafka (En cuisine avec Kafka) and Nick Cutter’s Little Heaven are forthcoming. Fontaine has been awarded residencies from the Banff International Literary Translation Centre and the Collège international des traducteurs littéraires in Arles, France, and his translations have been recognized by the Quebec Writers’ Federation (2012 Cole Foundation Prize for translation) and the Canada Arts Council (finalist for the 2014 Governor General’s Award for translation).
