Erdene Seng (1929–2000) was born in Binder, Khentii Province, Mongolia. He was the son of a herder from Burytia who was killed during the political repressions of the 1930s. An acclaimed novelist and short story writer, he received the Mongolian State Award in 1965 and the Mongolian Writers' Union award in 1976, and was awarded the title of People's Writer of Mongolia in 1994.
