Dmitri Novoselov was born in the Siberian city of Kyzyl, near the Mongolian border, in 1965. In the late 1970s he moved with his parents to the Urals. After school he trained as a forest engineer and worked to protect forests from poachers, pests, and diseases. In the 1990s he set up a business in order to feed his family, and at the beginning of the 2000s he moved into professional writing.
