Carlos Yushimito has published the story collections El mago (The Wizard, 2004), Las islas (The Islands, 2006), Lecciones para un niño que llega tarde (Lessons for a Child Who is Late, 2011) and Los bosques tienen sus propias puertas (Forests Have Their Own Doors, 2013).
In 2008, he was chosen as one of the best young writers in Latin America by Casa de las Americas and the Centro Onelio Cardoso de Cuba; and in 2010 by the British magazine Granta as one of the best Spanish language authors under the age of 35. Included in anthologies across nine countries, several of his stories have been translated into English, Portuguese, Italian, and French and have been published in international magazines such as Granta, The Asian American Literary Review (AALR), Revista de la Universidad de México, Hueso Húmero, and Review: Literature and Arts of the America. He earned his PhD in Hispanic Studies at Brown University and is currently a visiting professor at the University of California, Riverside.
