Ana Teresa Torres (Caracas, 1945), a psychologist and analyst, began publishing in 1984. Since then she has caught the attention of a widening audience in the local literary scene and beyond. She publishes novels and short stories, as well as essays. Her fiction offers a lucid plumbing into the recesses of childhood, eroticism, and history.
Outstanding among her dozen books of fiction are El exilio del tiempo (Monte Ávila, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993), Doña Inés contra el olvido (Monte Ávila, 1992, 1999; Alfa, 2008; Doña Inés versus Oblivion [trans. Gregory Rabassa], Louisiana State University Press, 1999, Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1999, Grove Press, 2000), Malena de cinco mundos (Literal Books, 1997; Ed. Blanca Pantin, 2000, 2005; Ed. Veintisiete Letras, 2008), and Los últimos espectadores del acorazado Potemkin (Monte Ávila, 1999). She’s a member of the Academia Venezolana de la Lengua. She lives in Caracas.
