Miquel de Palol

An architect and Catalan-language poet and novelist, Miquel de Palol was born in Barcelona.  He began his career as a poet with the collection Lotus (1972). He has authored the poetry collections L’Aneguet lleig (1977), Quan? (1979), La flor de l’atzavara de Can Coris (1980), Encara mor aquella primavera (1981), El porxo de les mirades (premio Carles Riba, 1982), El viatge misteriós (1983), Indiferència (1986), El sol i la mort (1996), and  Nocturns (2003), and the novels El jardí dels set crepuscles (Premio Nacional de Crítica, 1989), which was translated into Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch; Ígur Neblí (1994), El legislador (premio Josep Pla, 1997), Consulta a Ripseu (1997), El Quincorn (premio Sant Jordi, 1998), El Troiacord (2001), Les concessions (2004) and Un home vulgar (2006). His short story collections include Grafomàquia (1993) and Contes per a vells adolescents (1997), among others. His literary works range from myths to short works of fantasy fiction to speculative philosophy. He has contributed to various media outlets as well as to cultural and scientific magazines like Serra d’Or, La Vanguardia, El País, ABC, El Periódico de Catalunya, El Mundo y El Urogallo. He is a member of the Association of Catalan Language Writers and the PEN Club.
