what: 2014 Free Word Translators in Residence
Free Word’s Translators in Residence programme is now in its second year. This session will bring the scheme’s four translators together to review the wider impact of the residencies, and discuss opportunities for translators in working on festivals, school workshops and games – and how this plays into the crucial question of making a living. They will question how social media can be a method for greater transparency, and how literary translators from less-translated languages can become cultural mediators. They will also ask whether certain barriers – such as languages one can translate from and into – can be broken down.
