Heather Cleary’s translations from the Spanish include Sergio Chejfec’s The Planets and The Dark, both nominated for national translation awards, and a collection of Oliverio Girondo’s poetry for New Directions. Her translation of Roque Larraquy’s Comemadre will be out this July from Coffee House Press. She teaches at Sarah Lawrence College.
Mary Ann Newman translates fiction (Quim Monzó), poetry (Josep Carner), and essay (Xavier Rubert de Ventós) from Catalan and Spanish. She is cochair of the PEN America Translation Committee and in 2017 won the NACS Award for Outstanding Scholarship and the J.B. Cendrós Award (Òmnium Cultural) for her translation of Private Life by Josep Ma. de Sagarra.
Elisabeth Jaquette is a translator from the Arabic. Her work has been shortlisted for the TA First Translation Prize, longlisted for the BTBA, and supported by PEN/Heim and English PEN Translates awards. She is also Executive Director of the American Literary Translators Association.
Alex Zucker, in addition to translating Czech, advocates for professional translators to be treated professionally. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, his translation of J. R. Pick’s dark-comic take on life in the Jewish ghetto of Terezín during World War II, will be published by Karolinum Press in May.
