Darya Abdulkarim Ali will graduate this spring from the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani, with a major in international studies and a minor in English literature. She is a native of Sulaimani, the city many call “the cultural capital” of the KRG (Kurdistan Regional Government). Issues of womanhood in Kurdish literature interest her greatly; she fell in love with the audacious, yet vulnerable voice of Kajal Ahmad and has been translating her work ever since. She speaks Kurdish and English.
