Tiina Aleman is a poet, translator, and editor. She was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1958. She grew up speaking Estonian. She has traveled to Estonia several times, most recently, in February 2007, to participate in a translation seminar in Käsmu. Doris Kareva's translations of her poetry have appeared in Vikerkaar [Rainbow] and in Looming [Creation]. Her translations of Kareva have appeared in the Iowa Review and Dragonfire. She has completed translating two volumes of Kareva's poetry, The Shape of Time [Ajakuju] and Mandragora, and is at work on a third volume, Soul Circle [Hingring], all in collaboration with the poet. She is in search of a publisher.
