Santiago Páez

Santiago Páez was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1958. He has studied law, anthropology, literature, and in Madrid, communications. His legal and anthropological training has allowed him to experience life in a wide variety of diverse cultures-urban communities, forest villages, and African-American and indigenous Andean fisherman-that appears in his fiction....

Devoted to the creation of literature for the last ten years, he is the author of the following books: A La Voz Del Carnaval (1992), a study of ethnological and semiology analysis, Profundo en la Galaxia (1994, 2nd Edition, 2003), a book of stories and winner of the Premio José de la Cuadra, and the novels, La Reina Mora (1997, 2nd Edition, 1998), finalist of the 1997 Bienal de Novela Ecuatoriana, Los Archivos de Hilarión (1998), Shamanes y Reyes (1999), and Condena Madre (2000).
