Joseph R. Allen is professor of Chinese literature at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Allen's work in literature focuses on Chinese poetry and poetics, from an edition of the Book of Songs (ca. 600 BC) to contemporary poetry. His current research also includes a study of classical Chinese poetry in modern cultures, and a study of Taipei City from the perspective of public space as an expression of cultural power and ethnic tension.
