Galaktion Tabidze

Galaktion Tabidze (1891 or 1892–1959) was granted the prestigious title of íPeople's Poet of Georgiaë in 1933, and he is affectionately known by Georgians by the nickname íGalaktioni.ë He is known for leading a renewal of Georgian verse that, in the early decades of the twentieth century, refreshed and modernized the sounds and rhythms of poetic practice while paying heed to the heritage of such venerated poets as Nikoloz Baratashvili. From the time of Artistic Flowers (1919), he was widely recognized and esteemed for his talent. Poems such as íVillanelle, íThe Moon of Mtatsminda,ë and íBlue Horsesë are considered classics.
