Chen Xiaoping

Chen Xiaoping was born in 1961 in Hengyang. After graduating from Beijing University School of Law, he taught political science and law at China University, where he led the student movement in 1989. He was convicted of subversive activities in 1991 and expelled by his university....

Chen worked for the New York Times Beijing bureau from 1992 to 1997, when he was sent by the Time to Harvard University as a Nieman Fellow in 1997. From 1998 to 2001, he was a visiting scholar at Harvard’s Fairbank center; he was a student at Harvard Law School in 2002, and a researcher at Harvard Law School from 2003 to 2005. Chen is now a student at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Law and editor of China Law Digest .
