Alonso Sánchez Baute won the Premio Nacional de Novela de Colombia in 2002 for his debut novel Al diablo la maldita primavera, which was published the following year by Alfaguara and later adapted for the stage....

In 2005 he published with Planeta a book of profiles titled ¿Sex o no sex? In 2008 he published his second novel, Líbranos del bien, also with Alfaguara, which recounts the parallel lives of the guerrilla fighter Simón Trinidad and the paramilitary leader Jorge Cuarenta, two childhood friends from his hometown of Valledupar. He has written freelance for a variety of Colombian newspapers and magazines, including Soho, El Espectador, Fucsia, Jet-Set, El Tiempo, and Donjuán, and is currently a columnist for the newspaper El Heraldo. His most recent project involves writing, directing and hosting a television news magazine called El Sofá. He lives alone with his dog, Humilda.
