Words without Borders announces its November issue: Writing from the Caribbean

New York City, New York, November 1, 2011—Words without Borders (WWB) magazine announces the publication of an issue of writing from the Caribbean.

This month WWB showcases fiction and poetry from the Caribbean. Writers from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Martinique, and Puerto Rico contribute compelling portraits of their countries and societies. 

Editorial director Susan Harris notes, “From sober reports on natural disasters and political oppression to antic depictions of sexuality run amok, the pieces collected here testify to the range and vitality of the literature of the Caribbean.”

The star writers included here include Haitians Dany Laferrière, Evelyne Trouillot, and Lyonel Trouillot. Laferrière, winner of the 2009 Prix Médicis, delivers a wrenching eyewitness report from the January 2010 earthquake. Evelyne Trouillot gives voice to a madwoman on a turbulent journey, while Lyonel Trouillot, one of eight finalists for this year’s Prix Goncourt, follows a young woman’s return to a small coastal village on a Caribbean island to investigate his family history.

In our second feature this month, we present writing from Israel, with new work by Orly Castel-Bloom, Moshe Ron, and Agur Schiff, and a conversation moderated by Liel Liebowitz.
