Words without Borders announces Bei Dao’s upcoming visit to the Northside College Prep High School

New York City, New York, February 7, 2012—Words without Borders (WWB) is pleased to announce a school visit and a public reading by acclaimed Chinese poet Bei Dao in Chicago. Bei Dao will be speaking with students at Northside College Prep High School on the afternoon of March 1 and then will be presenting a public reading at the Barnes & Noble at the DePaul University Center at 7:30 that evening. Bei Dao will be accompanied by translator Elliot Weinberger.

About Bei Dao’s appearance, WWB Executive Director Joshua Mandelbaum stated, “We’re very excited to have such an accomplished poet be part of our blossoming author-classroom program. We feel very privileged to have the opportunity to introduce Bei Dao and his poetry to the students of Northside College Prep High School.”

Bei Dao is appearing as part of a pilot program for the Words without Borders education initiative . Other upcoming appearances include Eduardo Halfon in San Francisco, Carmen Boullosa in Houston, and Galit Seliktar and Etgar Keret in New York. The program is supported by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Bei Dao’s collections include The Rose of Time: New and Selected Poems (2010); Unlock (2000); At the Sky's Edge: Poems 1991–1996 (1996); Landscape Over Zero (1995); Forms of Distance (1994); Old Snow (1991); and The August Sleepwalker (1990). His awards and honors include the Aragana Poetry Prize from the International Festival of Poetry in Casablanca, Morocco, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. His work has been translated into over twenty-five languages.
