Words without Borders announces its February issue: “(Worth) Ten Thousand Words: The Graphic World, Volume IV”

New York City, New York, February 1, 2010—Words without Borders (WWB) magazine announces the publication of our fourth annual issue dedicated to the graphic novel.

Joshua Mandelbaum WWB managing director, stated, “For those already familiar with graphic literature this global showcase will provide a glimpse into the diversity of narrative and artistic traditions that have developed around the world. For readers who still associate comics with Batman or Garfield, the February issue provides ample example of the medium’s literary merits.”

This month includes amazing examples of the graphic novel from distinct corners of the world, including the work of the the grand prize winner at the 2009 Angoulême Festival, Blutch. The magazine features an excerpt from Blutch’s work That Was Happiness, which explores the marriage journey from early love to final divorce.

In addition to Blutch’s exploration of marriage, this issue tackles a range of topics from service in the Israeli Defense Forces to the murder of a prostitute in Cairo.

In these pages you will find China’s Wei Tsung-cheng, Israel’s Galit and Gilad Seliktar, the Netherlands’ Marc Legendre, Lebanon’s Zeina Abirached,  and Egypt’s Albert Cossery and Golo. In addition, there is a wonderful interview with Marina Harss by Michael McDonald, and an examination of Polish comics by Tomaz KoÅodziejczak.
