Words without Borders announces its April 2011 Issue: Quebec
New York City, New York, April 1, 2011—Words without Borders (WWB) announces an issue of new writing from and celebrating the literature of Quebec.
About the issue, WWB Editorial Director Susan Harris stated, ““Quebec’s literary culture reflects and goes beyond the province's political and social history. Existing on the margins of both French and North American literature, Quebec writing has expanded its national identity to embrace diverse international elements. We're very happy to bring this vibrant work to our readers."
Two celebrated authors from this issue are Nicolas Dickner and Nadine Bismuth.
Nicolas Dickner's literary awards include the Prix Anne-Hébert, the Prix des collégiens, and the Prix des libraires, In "The Zacharias Ascarias Affair," he shows a publishing phenomenon literally taking over the world.
Prizewinning novelist and short-story writer Nadine Bismuth contributes "Welcome to the Club." As a group of young women pick at choucroute and each other's boyfriends, Bismuth subtly reveals the fears and yearnings beneath their jaunty banter.
The Quebec feature also includes work by Pascal Girard, Sylvain Trudel, Dominique Fortier, Pan Bouyoucas, Jacques Poulin, Elsa Perin, Christine Germain, Michel Biron.
In addition to the Quebec feature, April 2011 includes work by Russian writers Larissa Miller, Natalia Klyuchareva, and Dmitry Biriukov; the third installment of our Man in Madrid Series, featuring a story by and interview with Chilean author Carlos Franz; and the final chapter of North Korean graphic novel The Secret of Frequency A: An Incredible Disaster
We thank Blue Metropolis Foundation, the Délégation générale du Québec à New York, the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles, and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for their generous support of this issue.
